Steve was born in the United Kingdom but lived there for only a few
Travel with Guns was started
by Steve Turner who has over
25 years of experience in the
months before he and his parents moved to Zambia when his father
took up a position working for the mines in, what was then Broken Hill,
now known as Kabwe. It was in this small mining town in Africa that
Steve started his schooling.
In 1969 job opportunities moved the family to the coal mines of Natal,
South Africa. Here Steve was sent to a small school called Uelzen
Primary School where he learned to speak, read and write Afrikaans
and German. He completed his schooling at Wartburg-Kirchdorf
High School in the Natal Midlands just outside Pietermaritzburg.
By this time the family had moved to Swakopmund, Namibia.
After completing his schooling all Steve wanted to do was travel.
He worked for a year at Rossing Uranium Mine outside of
Swakopmund, Namibia, and saved up enough money for a
two month vacation in Europe. It was here that his love for travel
was born. Prior to leaving on his trip to Europe he had applied to
work as a travel agent at the local travel agency in Swakopmund,
Woker Freight Services, where he had booked his Europe trip.
His manager and mentor, Elke Gruttemeyer, taught him all the basics
and it was apparent that Steve had a natural flair for the industry.
After a two year stint with Woker Freight Services working in all three
of their offices in Swakopmund, Walvis Bay and Windhoek, Namibia,
he moved on to Cape Town, South Africa where he started a long,
though interrupted, career with the local affiliate of American Express
Travel. He worked for them for about a year and half before he left them
to join Safleisure, a division of Safmarine, with their latest venture into
the world of cruising. For 18 months, he worked onboard the cruise ship
“Astor” starting as a waiter in the late night bar but ended his onboard
career as a 3rd Purser in charge of the Shore Excursions office, front
office and onboard accounting system.

He returned to South Africa and resumed his travel agency career
with American Express Travel where he worked in both leisure and
corporate travel ending up in Johannesburg running the in-house
corporate travel offices for Gencor, one of the largest mining houses
in South Africa. During his time in Cape Town he was honored by
winning the American Express Great Performers Award, a worldwide
award honoring American Express employees who went above and
beyond the call of duty to assist their clients.
He left American Express Travel and joined a small agency, Travel
Creations, where he assisted clients in both leisure and corporate
travel. In 1996 he was offered a position as agent with Gracy Travel
International, Inc and in December of 1996 took the huge step of
moving to the United States. He worked for Gracy Travel International, Inc.
until March of 2009 helping to build Gracy Travel International, Inc into
one of the leading niche travel agencies specializing in travel for the
sporting hunter traveling with sporting weapons.
On April 1st, 2009, Steve made another career move and opened
Travel With Guns, a subsidiary of Total Travel Solutions, Inc with the
intent of offering professional travel arrangements with personalized
